Tesla Files Permits for Private Robotaxi Charging Hub at Wesley Chapel Service Center

Tesla has filed permits to build a private charging hub for its driverless Robotaxi fleet at its sales and service center at 4980 Eagleston Blvd. in Wesley Chapel's Seven Oaks area, a project that would make the site near I-75 Exit 279 one of the first pieces of dedicated autonomous-vehicle infrastructure in the area. The hub will not be open to the public, but its presence suggests Tesla is preparing to run driverless rides on Wesley Chapel streets.

The filings, prepared by Dewberry Engineers Inc. and issued for permitting as of Sept. 16, 2026, describe eight V4 Supercharger stalls, a V4 power cabinet, a 1,600-amp switchboard and two light poles. The project description labels the site a "Robotaxi Private Site," language that leaves little doubt about its purpose. The equipment would go on the same lot as the Tesla service center, which sits close to Lexus and Toyota of Wesley Chapel and BayCare Wesley Chapel hospital.

A small add-on, not a mega-hub

A Tesla-focused analyst who reviewed the permit drawings said the Wesley Chapel plan looks like the same kind of setup Tesla has already built at service centers in Austin, San Antonio, Mesa and Chandler, Arizona. In those cities, the company added small fleet-charging stations onto existing dealerships rather than constructing standalone charging hubs. Eight stalls is a modest number next to a full public Supercharger station, but it is enough to keep a small local Robotaxi fleet running through a full day of rides.

Robotaxis already running nearby

Tesla's driverless Robotaxi service, which uses Model Y vehicles, has already expanded into Tampa and Orlando this year. Waymo, a separate driverless ride-hailing company, began offering public driverless rides in Tampa on Sept. 1, meaning two competing autonomous services are now operating in the Tampa Bay area within a short drive of Wesley Chapel. Florida law allows fully autonomous vehicles to operate on public roads without a person inside, treating the vehicle's automated driving system as the legal operator.

Tesla has not said when the Wesley Chapel charging hub will be finished or when Robotaxi rides might start picking up passengers locally. The company has also leased an 11-acre site on North Dale Mabry Highway in Tampa for Robotaxi operations, another sign it is building out infrastructure across the region rather than testing in just one spot.

What to watch for

The permit filing itself doesn't set a construction start date, and Pasco County has not scheduled any public hearing on the project since it involves site work at an already-approved commercial property rather than a new zoning request. The next visible sign of progress will likely be construction crews on the Eagleston Boulevard lot, followed by whatever announcement Tesla makes about extending Robotaxi service north from Tampa into Pasco County.
