Mysterious Object in Florida Sky Identified: SpaceX Starship Test Flight

Meanwhile, the Starship spacecraft continued its journey, aiming for a suborbital flight lasting about an hour. However, with just 20 seconds remaining in its ascent burn, SpaceX lost contact with the vehicle. Livestream footage captured several of its engines shutting down prematurely, causing the spacecraft to spin out of control. “Once you lose enough of those center engines, you’re going to lose attitude control,” explained SpaceX’s Dan Huot during the broadcast. The exact location of the spacecraft’s demise remains unclear, though safety measures coordinated with air traffic control were activated to protect the public.

For Florida residents, the distant event sparked intrigue as faint trails of light briefly illuminated the sky. A review of records indicates this test flight was part of SpaceX’s ongoing efforts to refine Starship for future missions, including potential satellite deployments and lunar expeditions. The company had planned to release mock Starlink satellites during the flight, though they were not intended to reach orbit.

This latest test follows a dramatic January flight that ended with Starship exploding over the Turks and Caicos islands, scattering debris across populated areas. Thursday’s mission, launched seven weeks later, incorporated upgrades like new heat shield tiles and engine adjustments to address previous failures.
