Collide Community is running a free Back to School Bash on Saturday, Aug. 8, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at 4110 Avalon Park Blvd. in Wesley Chapel, with giveaways and activities open to the whole community five days before Pasco County students go back to class. It is free, it is outdoors, and it is close enough to two other Saturday-morning stops that a family can do all three before lunch.
The location is the Flats leasing center at Avalon Park Wesley Chapel. Parking is on site.
Three stops, one Saturday morning
Avalon Park's Downtown Saturday Market runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 4424 Friendly Way, a short drive from the Bash. And Kia of Wesley Chapel holds its 4th Annual Backpack & Supply Giveaway starting at 11 a.m., handing out backpacks filled with school supplies to local families while they last.

What's different when the bell rings Aug. 13
Pasco County Schools starts the 2026-27 year on Thursday, Aug. 13, the latest first day of any district in Florida. Students walking in that morning will find tighter rules on screens than they left with in the spring.
The district has capped passive screen time in the classroom: no more than 30 minutes a day for kindergarten and first grade, about an hour a day for grades 2 through 8, and roughly 90 minutes a day on average at the high school level. District leaders have said the point is to cut back on time spent watching a device and push classroom technology toward work students actually do with it.
Personal phones are handled separately. Through eighth grade, phones and other wireless devices stay silent and out of sight for the entire school day unless a teacher clears them for a specific lesson. High schoolers get more room, including lunch, but classroom use still requires permission.
Worth a conversation on the drive home Saturday, before it becomes a first-week argument.
Then the roads change
Twelve days after the first bell, the commute gets harder. State crews begin a $19.8 million milling and resurfacing job on Aug. 25 covering SR 56 from west of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard to east of Meadow Pointe Boulevard, plus Bruce B. Downs (SR 581) from SR 56 north to SR 54. That is 7.3 miles of pavement straight through the middle of the school-run corridor.
The contract also includes intersection safety work, ADA upgrades, drainage fixes, traffic signal work and overhead lighting. Preferred Materials, Inc. is the contractor. Estimated completion is fall 2027, so families should plan on living with it through two school years, not two months. Details are posted on the state's SR 56 resurfacing project page.
Before Saturday
Avalon Park's own calendar lists the Bash and points families to collidecommunity.com for details. No registration has been announced, and no rain date has been posted. August in Wesley Chapel being what it is, check the organizers' page Saturday morning before you load the car.
Looking further out, the Avalon Park calendar picks back up the following Tuesday, Aug. 11, with an adult oil painting class at the same Avalon Park Boulevard address, and a homeschool art series starts Sept. 4.
