Wesley Chapel, FL - Due to extremely dry conditions and a prolonged lack of rainfall, an Emergency Burn Ban has been issued for all areas of Pasco County. The increased risk of brush fires has prompted county officials to enforce a mandatory burn ban, effective immediately. The ban will remain in place until further notice, with the county lifting restrictions only when conditions improve.

Residents of unincorporated areas in Pasco County are now prohibited from setting or causing fires. The ban includes, but is not limited to:

• Open burning

• Campfires and bonfires

• Burning of yard waste or garbage

Community members are urged to exercise caution, as seemingly harmless actions like discarding a lit cigarette can quickly ignite brush fires. These fires can easily spread out of control, endangering lives and damaging homes and businesses.

While the ban is in place, outdoor cooking in grills or smokers that can adequately contain fire, flame, and heat is still permitted. Pasco County Fire Rescue recommends ensuring that coals in grills are completely extinguished after cooking to prevent any potential fire hazards.

Pasco County officials will continue to monitor the situation and will notify residents when conditions improve and open burning can safely resume. In the meantime, everyone in the community is encouraged to remain vigilant and adhere to the burn ban to protect their neighbors and the surrounding environment.
