Southbound I-275 Closed from Overnight Fatal Accident (Now Open)

UPDATE: 06:40AM – FHP reports lanes re-opened.

ORIGINAL: One person was killed in a crash on I-275 early Friday morning. At the time of this article publishing (5:40AM) FHP reported that southbound I-275 was still closed. The exit ramps onto Bearss are open, allowing traffic to detour in another direction, but investigators say drivers should avoid this route if possible. It will cause delays throughout the morning commute.

The crash happened near Bearss Avenue at around 2:30 a.m.  The southbound lanes of I-275 are currently closed at Bearss Avenue.

Investigators are trying to determine what happened, but early indications show the crash possibly involved a wrong-way driver in the southbound lane of I-275.  A video of the scene shows a red 1993 Honda colliding with an Enterprise rental truck on the interstate.

The driver of the Honda has been pronounced dead. His identity has not been released pending the notification of kin.

The two people inside the rental truck sustained minor injuries.

The Florida Highway Patrol is expected to be on the scene for several hours
