WESLEY CHAPEL, FL – Pasco County Schools’ requirement that students, staff, and visitors wear masks or face coverings on all Pasco school campuses and district offices will end at the close of business on Friday, May 28. After that date, masks and face coverings will be optional.

May 28 is the last day of school for teachers. Wednesday, May 26, is the last day for students. The mask requirement will effectively remain in place through the end of the 2020-2021 school year.

The “mask optional” change will affect high school graduations that occur after May 28. The district will encourage graduates and their guests to bring a mask, as it is likely that crowds will gather at concession stands prior to the ceremony. All but one of the graduations held after May 28 will be held outdoors in stadiums.

The “masks optional” approach also will affect the Extended School Year (summer school), which starts Monday, June 7.

Though it is impossible to predict what course the pandemic will take in the coming months, Pasco County Schools is fully expecting the “masks optional” approach to carry over into the 2021-2022 school year.

  1. If masks are optional, this should be only for fully vaccinated individuals. Non-vaccinated individuals should still be required to mask.

    1. forcing children to wear a mask is ridiculous.
wear one if you wish to, stop mandating anything

  2. I cannot imagine the magnitude of this decision. Superintendent Browning appears to make it all look so easy. As a fairly intelligent middle aged woman, I would not know where to start. The science? The statistics? The students? Parents? Bless you & your Team, Mr. Superintendent.

  3. It is because of this sanity I am moving my family to your beautiful county (signed the purchase contract.) It’s unbelievable we have people in this country who are angry over children being able to breathe and speak properly and freely. I wouldn’t mandate and yell at people for wearing a mask as they scream “BUT THE SCIENCE! THE SCIENCE!” with absolutely no statistics given.

    It’s over, people.

Maybe now we can begin to treat our children with love and respect instead of sucking them into the fear-for-power mask theatre we Americans have put up with for 1/2 years.

  4. Just a warning if you decide to advertise with this website they will not communicate with you if you wish to opt out. I now have to deal with stopping this via my financial institution because they took away the opt out on the website and refuse to respond to my numerous communication attempts. Beware of sponsoring this page! Their communication is atrocious!
